Using Your U Black Card

Your physical U Black Card contains a secure NFC link that opens your digital profile instantly. To share your information:
  1. Ask the recipient to unlock their phone.
  2. Tap your U Black Card on the back of their phone.
Device Placement

iPhone
Near the upper back of the device

📱

Android
Near the center or upper back (varies by model)

If NFC does not activate, the recipient can scan the QR code printed on the U Black Card to open the same profile page. Some older phones or devices with NFC disabled may only work using the QR code.

3

What Recipients Can Do

When your U Black Card digital profile opens, recipients can:
  • Tap to call your phone numbers
  • Tap to send you an email
  • Open your website(s)
  • View your department and role
  • Copy, share, or bookmark your profile link
  • Email the link to themselves for future reference
No special app is required. Everything works through the device’s standard browser and phone applications.

4

Updating Your Information

Your U Black Card digital URL remains the same, even if your information changes. You may request profile updates at any time through University Print & Mail Services.
  • Updates are applied to the digital profile immediately
  • The physical U Black Card does not need to be reprinted unless lost or damaged
  • Your NFC link and QR code will continue to work with the updated profile

5

Tips for Best Performance

  • Hold the card in place for 1–2 seconds when tapping.
  • On some Android devices, NFC may need to be enabled in Settings.
  • Thick, metal, or wallet-style phone cases may interfere with NFC reading.
  • Save your personal U Black Card profile link so you can also share it via text, email, or messaging apps.
